G & Co. - The Bonnie Leather Strap
Handmade in Sao Paulo, Brazil
Description from G & Co.
Bonnie Lynn Raitt was born in 1949, in Burbank, California. Raitt was born into a musical family. Her father, John Raitt, was a famous Broadway singer and his mother, Marge Goddard, was an acclaimed pianist / singer. She won her first guitar (Stella) at the age of eight.
In the summer of 1970, she played with Mississippi Fred McDowell at the Philly Folk Festival, and then opened for John Hammond at the Gaslight Cafe in New York, where she caught the attention of a reporter who spoke about this “young, red-haired, blues singer with a natural way of singing and an unusual way of playing guitar.” She signed with Warner Bros. and recorded her first album, Bonnie Raitt, in 1971. The record caused a furore in the specialized press because Raitt was a skilled singer and slide guitarist, especially in a time when few women were known in pop music and yet playing guitar.
Thereafter, Raitt was always critically acclaimed, but without much sales success of her records. But she was very persistent. She switched labels, had problems with alcohol and drugs, and achieved her first record success with Nick of Time, in 1989.
After so many awards and honors and decades of touring non-stop, Bonnie continues her activism and appears in several sounds from friends including Ruth Brown, Charles Brown, Keb 'Mo, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Bruce Cockburn and duet duets with John Lee Hooker, BB King, John Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, Tony Bennett, and Ray Charles.
Bonnie won 10 Grammys and is one of the only female guitarists on the best guitarists of all time and was introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
